Passacaglia “Prometeo el Grande” (Prometheus the Great)

A Mérida Festival and Compañía Santuka de Fuego production.

Prometheus “Benefactor of Humanity”…
That irreverent man who challenged the great Zeus again and again, discrediting his authority…
That titanic creator of our species…
That clever man who deceived the gods to bring the best meat to mankind…
That wise teacher for women and men…

It is now time to pay tribute to this character who risked everything to give us the warmth of fire and the light of knowledge…

Santuka de Fuego finds many admirable virtues in him: intelligence, generosity, courage, irreverence, insight, sensitivity and above all… love.

Many times legends are parables that teach us the important things in life. The aim of this performance is to deliver a message that invites people to reflect and hope.
It will be a passive rebellion against power.

A revolutionary parade that gives people the courage to fearlessly face any reprisals an absurd authority may exert over them. If people are truly convinced they are doing things correctly and adding a little light to the world, the fire will be inextinguishable.

There could be no better example among all legends and myths to reflect this essence:
the fire of passion.

Saturdays, 29th June to 24th August.
The passacaglia route begins at the main door of the Roman Theatre and moves down the pedestrian street Santa Eulalia to Plaza de España, and then back.
